Strategic Input Supply Programs to Be Discussed at SIAVS

In light of the adversities faced by the production sector due to record increases in production costs, sector leaders and representatives of producer organizations will discuss strategies to encourage supply in a roundtable discussion. The debate will take place during the International Poultry and Swine Show SIAVS, which will be held from August 9 to 11 at Anhembi Park in São Paulo.

Coordinated by former minister and chairman of the Advisory Board of the Brazilian Animal Protein Association ABPA, Francisco Turra, the discussion will address the programs currently in place to encourage the expansion of national corn production, an input that has accumulated an increase of more than 100 percent over the past two years.

At the same time, the panel will also address the program that brought together the public sector and leaders of producer organizations from southern Brazil to encourage the production of winter cereals.

Participants in the debate will include the head of Embrapa Trigo, Jorge Lemainski, the president of the Federation of Agriculture of the State of Rio Grande do Sul FARSUL, Gedeão Silveira Pereira, the executive director of the Federation of Agricultural Cooperatives of the State of Rio Grande do Sul FECOAGRO, Sérgio Feltraco, and Arene Trevisan, coordinator of the ABPA Corn Working Group.

“Brazilian poultry and swine production have faced severe challenges in maintaining competitiveness amid rising production costs. In this context, winter cereals have already proven to be an important alternative to corn. Demand for these inputs is strong. Brazil is still an importer of wheat and barley, but we have already set the challenge of, within five years, transforming the country into a self sufficient producer and even an exporter. This is the strategy that will be debated,” Turra said.
