FACTA Symposium Addresses Production Without Performance Enhancing Antimicrobials

The technical perspective applied to new market guidelines will be discussed during the FACTA Symposium, which will take place as part of the program of the International Poultry and Swine Exhibition SIAVS, the largest event for these sectors in Brazil, scheduled from August 9 to 11 at Anhembi Parque in São Paulo.

Scheduled for the second day of SIAVS on August 10, the FACTA Symposium, promoted by the Apinco Foundation for Poultry Science and Technology FACTA, will feature the participation of technical specialists from supplier companies, agribusinesses and academic institutions, in a broad debate on the various topics involved in a production approach without the use of performance enhancing antimicrobials.

The first part of the symposium will be moderated by Ibiara Almeida Paz, professor at São Paulo State University Unesp. Among the speakers will be Fabrício Delgado from Nutriquest, who will address the market perspective for this new trend, whether as a niche or a consumer requirement. Presentations will also include Jean de Oliveira from Cargill, who will discuss microbiota maturation as an indicator of healthy poultry to avoid the use of performance enhancing antimicrobials, and consultant Antônio Klein, who will cover feed manufacturing processes, logistics and traceability in foods produced without performance enhancing antimicrobials.

In the second stage, moderated by Eva Hunka from FACTA, presentations will focus on breeder and hatchery management in companies that do not use performance enhancing antimicrobials, with Mário Sérgio Assayag from Aviagen. There will also be a presentation on broiler management by José Luís Januário from Cobb Vantress, and an analysis of the cost benefit of using alternative products by Ricardo Hummes Rauber from Ventinova.

“Within the scope of debates around the One Health concept, production without growth promoting antimicrobials has been gaining strength in the national market, creating new opportunities for the technical and scientific development of poultry competitiveness. We brought together important experts with the goal of fostering a plural and mature vision of the future around these new demands,” evaluates Ariel Antônio Mendes, president of FACTA and coordinator of the SIAVS scientific program.
