FAMBRAS Halal, Brazil\u2019s first Halal certification body and the largest in Latin America, has confirmed its participation in the International Animal Protein Show (SIAVS), the largest event for production chains in Brazil, promoted by the Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA). The event will take place in S\u00e3o Paulo from August 6 to 8 at the Anhembi District.<\/p>\n
At the event, the certification body aims to clarify for the market what the Halal concept is and what the certification involves, enabling the export of animal protein, poultry and beef, to countries with a Muslim majority. \u201cHalal is a concept rooted in Islamic tradition that means permitted, and this extends to food. Muslims consume Halal products because they know they are safe, do not harm health and did not negatively affect animal welfare or the environment during the production process, among other attributes,\u201d explains Omar Chahine, Director of Commercial Intelligence at FAMBRAS Halal.<\/p>\n
To certify that a product is Halal, it must undergo a rigorous certification process. Through laboratory testing, document reviews and audits, it is necessary to prove that the product complies with the precepts of the Islamic religion and with the main international manufacturing standards.<\/p>\n
In the case of animal protein, the slaughter process must also follow specific rituals that ensure animal welfare.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n Brazil is the world\u2019s largest exporter of Halal protein<\/strong><\/p>\n According to the Secretariat of Trade and International Relations, Brazil sells Halal chicken meat to more than 30 countries. In 2023, exports exceeded 2.2 million metric tons, generating more than US$3.9 billion in revenue. The Brazilian Beef Exporters Association reported that, last year, exports to Muslim majority countries accounted for more than 15 percent of Brazilian beef exports, totaling over 330 thousand metric tons and revenue of US$1.3 billion.<\/p>\n \u201cThere is still plenty of room for Brazilian protein producers,\u201d Chahine notes. \u201cThere are around two billion Muslims in the world. By 2050, this population will reach 2.8 billion people, according to statistics from the United Nations Population Fund and the International Monetary Fund.\u201d<\/p>\n Due to the quality of Halal products and the principles they uphold, demand has also been growing among non Muslim consumers who are concerned about conscious consumption.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n
