The \u201cCuruca Trophy\u201d award carries a meaning deeply rooted in Tupi-Guarani culture and highlights companies that incorporate sustainability into their daily operations.<\/em><\/p>\n

Formerly known as the International Poultry and Swine Show and now transformed into the International Animal Protein Show, with the inclusion of additional activities in its scope, SIAVS has as one of its traditions the Feed&Food Sustainability Symposium and the presentation of the Curuca Trophy, an award considered the Oscar of Sustainability in Agribusiness, as part of its official program.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Created in 2013, the award promoted by FeedFood has a clear purpose through this event: to highlight companies that have incorporated the concept of sustainability into their daily routines. Every two years, organizations that demonstrate a real commitment to environmental preservation, the promotion of social well-being and the strengthening of corporate governance practices receive an honor: the Curuca Trophy.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The name \u201cCuruca\u201d itself carries deep meaning rooted in Tupi-Guarani culture. In this tradition, two characters, Caapora and Curupira, are known as defenders of the environment, fauna and flora. Curupira is the guardian of the forest and, according to legend, protects it against intense deforestation. Caapora, in turn, is the protector of animals and is said to ride through the forest on a peccary, punishing hunters of wild animals. These legends come together in the Curuca Sustainability Trophy to promote environmental awareness and inspire sustainable actions.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt the same time FeedFood was created, the sector realized it would need to produce more due to population growth. However, since our resources are finite, the need arose to produce more using the same area and the same resources, or even fewer. And this is only possible through science, technology and research,\u201d explains Diogo Ciasulli, CEO of the publishing group responsible for FeedFood.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

According to him, this production adjustment also came to include a strong concern for animal welfare. \u201cThey need to have a dignified, healthy life, without limitations on resources such as water or food,\u201d he says, adding: \u201cIn the past, we spoke only about sustainability. Today, this includes animal welfare, which is where ESG comes in.\u201d<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

For this reason, Environmental, Social and Governance, better known as ESG, is the theme of this year\u2019s FeedFood Symposium. We are living in times when corporate responsibility goes beyond profits. Companies that adopt sustainable approaches not only thrive in business, but also help shape a better world for future generations.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Among the attendees will be leading figures in the sector, such as Ricardo Santin, president of the Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA); Jos\u00e9 Luiz Tejon, managing partner of Biomarketing, FeedFood columnist and agribusiness marketing specialist; and Roberto Ign\u00e1cio Betancourt, president of Feedlatina, the Association of Animal Feed Industries of Latin America and the Caribbean.<\/p>\n

The FeedFood Sustainability Symposium and the Curuca Trophy award ceremony will begin at 2:00 p.m. on August 7, as part of the SIAVS 2024 program, at Anhembi Parque in S\u00e3o Paulo.
