The event will feature the participation of some of the leading figures from the Official Veterinary Service responsible for sanitary control.<\/em><\/p>\n

The swine diseases that have gained global attention and impacted the world food supply will be discussed during the Symposium on Swine Diseases, which will take place at the International Poultry and Swine Show SIAVS, the largest event for the sectors in Brazil. The event will be held from August 9 to 11 at Anhembi Park in S\u00e3o Paulo.<\/p>\n

Scheduled for the second day of SIAVS on August 10, the symposium will be moderated by Jos\u00e9 Guilherme Leal, Secretary of Agricultural Defense at the Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture. It will present the current situation of African Swine Fever and the actions of WOAH, formerly OIE, in a presentation by the organization\u2019s representative Charmaine Chng Wenya.<\/p>\n

Following this, federal auditor Marcelo Camargos, head of the Federal Agricultural Defense Laboratories of Minas Gerais, will address the diagnostic tools currently available and the strategies for detecting African Swine Fever, a disease from which Brazil has been free for four decades.<\/p>\n

Classical Swine Fever will also be discussed. Federal agricultural auditor Guilherme Zaha Takeda, head of the swine health division at the Ministry of Agriculture, will present the current situation and the full control of the disease in the non free zone that still exists in Brazil.<\/p>\n

Addressing other diseases, Fabio Vanucci from the University of Minnesota will discuss Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome and Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea.<\/p>\n

Closing the lecture program, Lia Treptow Coswig, federal auditor from the Special Affairs Coordination of the Ministry of Agriculture, will speak about the challenges of controlling wild boars in Brazil, a key factor in maintaining the country\u2019s sanitary status.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Symposium on Swine Diseases will provide a deep dive into the most relevant issues for animal health, covering everything from the global African Swine Fever crisis to the essential and necessary control of the wild boar population, which is a critical point requiring full attention. The participation of Secretary Jos\u00e9 Guilherme further strengthens the relevance of the debates at the event,\u201d says Ariel Ant\u00f4nio Mendes, coordinator of the SIAVS program.<\/p>\n
