With so many changes and challenges in the economy, animal protein consumption has highlighted eggs, which are now more than ever gaining significant space on the Brazilian plate. With this in mind, the OVOSITE Symposium at SIAVS brought discussions on how to achieve balance between animal welfare and final product quality.
With guests such as Leandro Pinto from Granja Mantiqueira in Rio de Janeiro and Ricardo Faria from Avícola Catarinense in Florianópolis, the audience was able to follow market research data, experiences from other countries, and positive results from new practices.
The main practice mentioned by the speakers was Cage Free, which literally means without cages, referring to free range poultry production. After a court ruling in the United States, state law mandates required producers to eliminate cages in poultry farming. Shortly after adapting to this requirement, American producers began to observe the following main impacts:
* This year alone, production grew by 35 percent organically
* Significant improvement in animal welfare
* Greater balance between the environment and production with sustainability
* Increase in final product quality
Regarding the challenges of Cage Free systems, the speakers highlighted:
* Understanding how to improve equipment in this new reality
* The speed at which this new reality will reach Brazil
* Sustainable growth of production with output balanced with consumption capacity
* Skilled labor, including in the post pandemic context
When it comes to Cage Free systems in Brazil, the state of Rio Grande do Sul is one step ahead and is already experiencing not only the methodology but also the benefits of this choice, which has already resulted in a significant increase in product exports.
The program continues with exhibition visits and lectures on August 10 and 11. Visit www.siavs.com.br to learn more.
SIAVS
Organized by ABPA, the main poultry and pork industry event in Brazil will be even larger than the previous edition held in 2019. The commercial area has been expanded by 30 percent, adding new annexes to the space traditionally occupied by the trade fair. Space sales have already been practically completed.
In addition to business opportunities, SIAVS will host the largest technical congress in the sector, with an intense program and more than 100 speakers from Brazil and other countries.
The political relevance of the event is another differentiator. Authorities from the national executive and legislative branches, as well as from state governments, are expected, strengthening the event’s role as the main forum for debate on the future of the sectors.
In 2019, the event welcomed more than 20,000 visitors from 50 countries, with over 170 exhibitors. Across dozens of congress rooms, presentations by more than 100 speakers from Brazil and other countries were delivered to 2,400 congress participants.
